A lot of my time goes into making paintings — most of that time goes into looking at them when I think they might be complete. The loop of thinking and looking is ongoing. Sometimes when they're close to being finished I take them out of the studio into the domestic space. How do they work? Have they managed to hide something that irritates me, which only gets revealed as I'm eating my breakfast?
I love this long relationship with paintings, and so with the ever growing need to come out of my self-imposed studio shell, I've decided to put on an exhibition — one that gives people the chance to live with a painting for much longer by inviting it into their homes for a couple of months. So instead of visiting a gallery to see a painting for a few minutes, you get to live with it for a much longer period.
I need to take down this last batch of paintings from the studio and make a final edit of around 20 from the last few years, and then I can start planning the show and all the wonderful little extras that go alongside it.
I already have some wonderful people and places involved. If you'd like to take part, all I require is that you send me a documentary photo I can use, and that you engage with the painting. I'll cover all costs and you won't need to open your home to the public.
If you're interested please reach out to me.
I'll also be launching a fundraiser as the next stage — join my mailing list on my website for details.
